New Information Has Revealed One More Big Surprise? Apple Iphone 13
It's likely that the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models will have a 7.57mm thickness. The iPhone 12 measures 0.17mm thicker than the iPhone 13. The good news is that most people won't notice the change. Even so, if the iPhone 13 feels a little thicker in your hands this fall, don't worry.
iPhone 13: The bigger camera bump
Phones aren't the only thing getting thicker. New iPhone models have a larger camera bump to reduce protrusion. It is reported that the iPhone 13 Pro's bump will be 3.65 mm as compared to the iPhone 12's 1.5mm to 1.7mm bump.
There is a larger camera bump on the iPhone 13 as well - it will be 2.51mm based on the schematics.
iPhone 13: The Reward For Extra Girth
However, iPhone 13 Pro's array is more than just thick. The ultrawide camera on those phones may receive an upgrade. A new 6-part lens and an increased aperture will increase that camera's light transmission.
This new report confirms what we already saw in a YouTube video last week. The iPhone 13 Pro Max dummy unit confirmed the iPhone 13's big changes.
Further to what we learned from these two rumors, other iPhone 13 rumblings suggest that Touch ID will return, either as an in-display sensor or integrated into the power button, as it did with the iPad Air 4. Additionally, a dynamic refresh rate is supposed to be available on iPhone 13 Pro models.
The latest gossip comes from Ted Lasso, the popular Apple TV Plus series. In two brief scenes of a recent episode, we see a glimpse of a notch-less phone that some speculate to be the iPhone 13. But we shouldn't get too excited. Despite the buzz generated by shots of the phone, it's more likely a fleeting CGI imperfection in post-production than sneak peeks of the iPhone 13.
Hype for the new Apple smartphone continues to grow, as we inch closer and closer to the reveal of Apple's new iPhone. According to a survey by SellCell, reported on by MacRumors, 44% of current iPhone users plan to upgrade to one of the iPhone 13 models when they become available.
We've heard that the iPhone 13 lineup will feature four phones -- the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max -- as predicted by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This lineup matches the four iPhone 12 models from last year. But that's not all that's staying the same: The iPhone 13's price and design might be familiar as well.
The following rumors and everything we've heard about the iPhone 13 is included below, including speculation about the iPhone 13's release date (rumors point to September, as usual), how it might compare to the iPhone 12 and what we know about the iPhone 13's price and other specs. Watch this space for more Apple rumors in the coming weeks. (And don't miss our iPhone 13 wish list.) New information will be added to this story as it becomes available.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that the iPhone 13 lineup will include four phones: the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Last year's iPhone 12 lineup was identical to this year's. That's not all that's staying the same; even its price and design are likely to be similar to the iPhone 12.
Battery: Larger capacity doesn't mean iPhone 13 will have a longer battery life
Early in June, a Weibo rumor suggested that the iPhone 13 lineup would have a larger battery than the iPhone 12 lineup. Leaker @L0vetodream posted specs on Twitter for the iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, with 4,325 mAh for the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Apple does not publicly disclose official battery specs for its iPhone 12 (though it claims the batteries are bigger than the iPhone 12's). It is possible, however, that the larger battery capacity of the iPhone 13 will lead to shorter battery life than the smaller battery size. This depends on the phone's other upgrades and how well its software is optimized for battery life. Although Apple's batteries aren't as powerful as those of other brands' premium phones.
In terms of charging its battery, the iPhone 13 may have some new tricks up its sleeve, such as faster wireless charging and possible reverse charging, according to a video from EverythingApplePro on YouTube via leaker Max Weinbach. Other Qi devices can be charged on the back of your phone by utilizing reverse charging. A bigger wireless charging coil and strong magnets housed in the back of the iPhone 13 are speculated to be the reasons for the iPhone 13's wireless charging capability. Many of the iPhone's competitors have reverse wireless charging, including the Samsung Galaxy S21, Samsung Galaxy S20, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and the OnePlus 8 Pro. iPhones have not yet been updated with this feature by Apple.
Release date: iPhone 13 should be here by mid-September
Apple has not yet announced a date for the release of its next iPhone. Earlier this year, it was reported that the manufacturing of the iPhones' new chips was ahead of schedule, putting the iPhone 13 release date back on Apple's pre-pandemic schedule. The release date for Apple's iPhone can usually be extrapolated from iPhone events occurring in the future.
In 2020, however, it was a different story -- because of the Coronavirus pandemic, Apple's September event was the first in eight years without an iPhone. Apple's supply chain is also expected to remain unchanged this year, according to Kuo. When the iPhone 13 is announced, it may be announced at an event in September.
We're not happy that the iPhone 13 could be getting thicker, but hopefully, the upgrades will outweigh the tradeoff. According to rumors, the iPhone 13 will feature a notch-less display, increased battery life, more refresh rate, upgraded camera specs, new color options (possibly bubblegum pink), and more this fall. Apple's iPhone 13 is expected to be released around the end of this year.
